DESIGN
Nestled in the Byron Bay hinterland, Lo Scoglio is an Italian-inspired farmhouse that celebrates heritage, family, and timeless design. Also the idyllic setting for our recent photoshoot for new tones Sand & Ivory. We spoke with the owner, Angelica about designing the property and her daily rituals in the relaxed seaside town. Thoughtfully curated with natural materials such as stone, timber, and brass, the home reflects its owner’s deep connection to her Sicilian roots and love for rugged yet elegant simplicity. Days here are shaped by meaningful rituals—like morning tea prepared by her husband—and weekends spent walking the beach, exploring local markets, and savoring the slower pace of life. Lo Scoglio is a soulful retreat where every detail tells a story of creativity, connection, and understated luxury. Take the tour.

I’m Angelica Arnott. I am a full-time, unofficial nurturer, healthcare provider, psychologist, and cook. I live with my young family in Boorowa, NSW, on a biodynamic cattle farm. I divide my time between the country and Byron Bay. Currently, I am collaborating with Di Lunedi to create bespoke tableware inspired by Italy, which will soon be available through Lo Scoglio.
For me, creativity is about seeing potential in everything, from the smallest details to the bigger picture. It’s the freedom to express your deepest yearnings. My inspiration comes from a profound desire to connect with my surroundings, harmonizing with the landscape and the elements to create seamless unity. My Italian heritage is my greatest source of inspiration.
Lo Scoglio is an Italian-inspired farmhouse nestled in the pristine Byron Bay hinterland. Designed with luxury in mind, it caters to the discerning traveler seeking an idyllic retreat.
After years of living on the beachfront at Wategos in Byron, where we thought we’d never leave, our growing family made us realize we needed a backyard! It took time to find the right spot, but we eventually settled on a two-acre block with an existing house. The moment we found it, we knew we had made the right decision.
Our favorite weekend to do's include an early morning walk on the beach at Suffolk or Belongil with the kids and dogs, coffee at The Local in Newrybar, and lunch in Bangalow followed by a stroll through the village markets. Sometimes, nothing at all.
Lo Scoglio is a tribute to my Sicilian heritage and the Italian legacy I inherited from my father. My inspiration comes from vivid memories of life on the island of Stromboli—sparse yet not frugal, rugged yet organic. We chose materials like stone, timber, and brass to create a sense of groundedness and understated glamour.
Understanding who you are and how you see yourself in the world is key to creating authentic design. My work is an expression of where I’ve been and what has influenced me over the years.
A home is shaped by the love and care given to the unseen details. While rules can create order, being too prescriptive can strip a space of its essence and character.
I don't get out of bed until my husband has made the tea, it’s the ritual I never break.
